Drive through Thorndon with many of Wellington’s civic and historic buildings. Visit Old St Paul’s Cathedral, built from native timbers, then step onto the grounds of Parliament,  to see “the Beehive” and hear a brief history of New Zealand’s political system.

Take in the beauty of Wellington harbour from the Cable Car Lookout and visit the award winning Cable Car Museum.  If you like ride on the iconic Cable Car down to Lambton Quay.

Pass through the vibrant Cuba Quarter with its craft beer breweries, chocolate factories, coffee roasters and eclectic fashion boutiques.

Drive up to the summit of Mt Victoria for 360 degree views over the city,  Over one side cruise ships docked in the harbour and over the other side planes taking off into the Cook Strait.


Take a trip out to Miramar Peninsula and Weta Cave for a taste of the creativity that goes on in the film empire of Peter Jackson.

Enjoy lunch or refreshments  in the beautifully designed Art Deco Roxy Cinema Building or in a seaside cafe overlooking one of Wellington’s most beautiful beaches.

On the Eastern coast of the Peninsula see where Kupe, the great Maori explorer, is said to have landed over 1000 years ago. The Peninsula is also home to a number of ecology projects including Predator Free Miramar and the Oruaiti Reserve, an area preserving native plants and breeding grounds for little blue penguins.

Then drive back to your hotel or ship, via Oriental Bay, noted for its popular beach, Victorian and art deco architecture, private cable cars and being Wellington’s most affluent suburb and home to some of Wellington’s most notorious citizens.

Wellington Cable Car

Step back in time see how Wellington’s most iconic transport system has developed.  Enjoy the panoramic view over Wellington City and Harbour from the top of the Cable.  Visit the Cable Car museum,  located in the original winding house for the cable car system and view the the original grip cars that operated on the line. Take a ride on the Cable car from the top to the heart of the city centre and back up the hill through the hillside terraced houses of Kelburn and past Victoria University of Wellington.
